3rd Annual 5K Race for the River

Over 250 runners and walkers participated in the Race for the River on May 8, 2010.  The winner (men's division) was Leo Banales, with a time of 16:57, while the women's overall winner was Courtney Andreotti, with a time of 23:43.  Prizes were also awarded in gender and age categories, with a special award going to 91-year-old Molly Sloan, the oldest participant.

Volunteer Appreciation Lunch

Serving lunchThe River Park was delighted to honor its many volunteers on January 16th.  These volunteers are vital to the Conservancy's operations.  The event was held at a restored house owned by Board Member Betty MacMillen and volunteers were welcomed by the reigning Miss Lakeside. 

 

Lakeside Highway LionsVolunteer lunchThe Lakeside Lion's Club provided a western lunch and the Lakeside Highway Lions presented western-themed entertainment afterwards.

 

 

Volunteers receiving special recognition were

Rae Swiech Rae Swiech received the Outstanding All-Around Outreach Volunteer Award for her tireless efforts in promoting the goals of the Park around San Diego.
Richard Gurevich Richard Gurevich received the outstanding All-Around outdoor Volunteer award for his leadership role with the Plant Group and his work with the Field Supervisor, Mark Williams.
Stuart Clark Stuart Clark received the Security Award.  Stuart spends the nights on the property of the River Park to discourage vandals and trespassers.
Fritz Brecke Fritz Brecke received the Weed Warrior Award for his enthusiasm and skill in ridding the Park of invasives like arundo and tamarisk.
Molly Sloan Molly Sloan received the 2009 Joan Burnett Inspirational Award.  Molly is probably our oldest volunteers and she comes on Wednesdays to pull weeds, plant seedlings, and generally inspire everyone around her.
