Herbicide
Application Team
(aka Weed Warriors)

Over
the years the area that is becoming the River Park has acquired
a number of unwanted residents in the form of invasive, non-native
plants. These plants can cover large areas and squeeze out the native
plants that we are trying to reintroduce. The Herbicide Application
Team (aka Weed Warriors) works to eliminate non-native invasives
from the area to allow the planting of appropriate plants in the
riverbed and along the trail.
Responsibilities:
1.
Apply selected treatment to pre-defined areas of non-native plants.
2,
Prepare, use, clean and maintain all equipment, tools and safety
gear required.
3.
Become knowledgeable of all non-native plants species found at LRPC.
4.
Complete and submit administrative forms after each assignment.
5.
Accurately record volunteer hours.
6.
Commit to a minimum of 8 hours a month to LRPC.
7.
Work well with others and enjoy being part of a team.
8.
Provide emergency response when needed.
Requirements
1.
Must be 18 years old or older.
2.
Successful completion of the required HAA training session.
3.
Ability to identify non-native plant species accurately in the field
in a variety of growth stages.
4.
Ability to follow directions with accuracy and attention to detail.
5.
Ability to perform work of a physical nature in an outdoor environment
which may include sun and heat exposure.
6.
Ability to lift 50 lbs, and hike with a 35lb herbicide backpack
over steep slopes, rough terrain and through thick brush.
Training:
1.
Attend the training class for herbicide application and any follow-up
in-service training.
2.
Learn Safe Work Techniques.
3.
Learn management techniques for specific invasive species.
4.
Training on equipment.
5.
Native vs. Non-Native plants.
