2020 Education Programs

Learn more about what we do at the River Park by joining us for an education program or a hike with the Executive Director. We also schedule private tours and events. Our education talks and upcoming hikes with the Director are listed below.

Guided Hikes - Behind the Scenes of the River Park

- Last Saturday of every month -

GUIDED HIKE PROGRAM, Docent-led hikes will be on the last Saturday of every Month @ 9am, except October; no hike in December.

 

Come along on a free guided hike behind the scenes of the River Park! You will be taken on a tour with one of our fantastic docents that will lead you from the public trail down through a private trail that is closed to the public. You'll learn all about the habitat, wildlife and the future of the trail. Hike is 1 mile and should take approx 90 minutes or less.

Last Saturday of every month @ 9am (Except October; no hike in December)

No RSVP needed

Meet-up Location: 10354 Channel Rd in Lakeside.  Park in lot and meet near trail kiosk.  Long pants, sun protection and water recommended for each person.  Because a portion of this hike will be off trail, NO DOGS OR STROLLERS ALLOWED.  Children who can walk on their own, or be in a carrier on a hikers person are welcome.

The Reading of Jane Yolen's Owl Moon

- Saturday, January 11th @ 6pm - 8pm

Under a full moon, come hear a reading of Jane Yolen's Owl Moon.  We will discuss Owls and show where they live and breed.  Great for all ages!

Hot cocoa - sugar-free and regular provided.  PLEASE BRING:  Refillable mug/cup, blanket or chair and warm clothes. 

Rattlesnake Avoidance Training for Your Dog

- Saturday, February 8th, by appointment only - 

High On Kennels expert trainers will be at the River Park conducting this crucial training for dogs 6+ months & up. 

Fee is $77 per dog and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the River Park.  Please Register Here

Barn Sale TO BE RESCHEDULED

- Friday & Saturday, April 17-18th - 

We will be holding a Barn Sale full of unique, mid-century, collectible, barely used items for home and decorating, inside and out.  Please feel free to drop off times to 12108 Industry Road, Lakeside, Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.  If you need other arrangements please call 619-443-4770.  Please, no electronics.

May Day Hike TO BE RESCHEDULED

- Saturday, May 2nd 8am - 

Executive Director Robin Rierdan will be leading a hike in a secluded and beautiful location in Lakeside. Sturdy hikers are wanted to accompany Robin and others on this guided hike through some of the most beautiful terrain in Lakeside.  More info in the near future.
