River & Watershed
Part of our mission to protect and preserve the San Diego River means that we take action when and where needed...like after a rain.
The water has to go somewhere! Rainwater runoff is carried to the San Diego River through culverts put in place by the county. Unfortunately, toxins, trash and debris that have been improperly discarded travel with the precious rainwater as it makes way to the SD River. A decade ago the River Park constructed a bioswale filtration system to help remove harmful chemicals and heavy metals, and also to keep Lakeside from flooding as it had in years past (yay!), but the items large enough to be seen by the naked eye need to be manually removed. This is where volunteers, like YOU, come in to play.
Please join us at one of our upcoming RIVER CLEAN-UP efforts:
June 7 & June 8 (Friday & Saturday)
7am-11am, each day
Please join us to help keep our watershed areas clean! These watershed areas have potential to carry trash and debris all the way to the bay so it is our job to keep it clean and we appreciate the community stepping up to make it happen!
Location: 12431 Lakeside Ave in Lakeside. Join us in the old yard directly across the street and just south from the new StaxUP Storage on Lakeside Ave. Enter through the yellow gate.
We anticipate we may need 2 days to to get this area clean. Please register and let us know which day or dates you can participate on and we will be sure to update everyone after day 1 is complete. We ask that all volunteers please register so we can keep you up to date, thank you!
Please be sure to wear long pants, appropriate shoes and bring lots of water.
Dumpster will be donated by our generous friends at EDCO!
